[APML] 8" 1200mm Dob using Heavy Duty Equatorial Mount. Is it possible?
Hi to you guys out there,
May i ask you one question? is it possible if i put my 8" 1200mm Dobsonion to
the Heavy Duty Equatorial Mount and plus a guidescope on the top of the
Dob........
is it overweight? or i need to add more counterweight on it to balance up?
Can you give me some opinion on this point?
Thanks
Tommy

You should know from past experience how accurate aligning with just a bore
scope is for your scope. It will almost certainly be good enough for 50mm
without drifting.
Guiding would only help if you have absolutely atrocious periodic error,
nevertheless, being anal, I intend to use the ST-4 to auto-guide, and I'll
probably drift align also. (Hey, I said I was anal).
If it's windy, it will depend entirely on the stability of your mount and
the level arm of whatever scope is attached to it. Polar alignment and
guiding probably won't help with the wind at all.
