Re: [APML] Aurora images posted
Tony,
Wow. Some nice greens captured there. I was surprised to see
how
long you exposed those shots...? Huge difference in exposure
times,
film speed, and f stop compared to Bobbys' shot. Here were my
exp
times: rg200 - 15sec - 2mins @ f/4; rg1000 - 1sec - 1min @
f/4. I
considered opening the lens all the way for my rg200 shots (28/2.8
lens),
but decided against it. If they turn out I'll post them tomorrow
evening.

Hello,
Last night's aurora has to
be one of the most spectacular things I have ever seen... remember
I am a California person so this is a very special event for us. Luckily
I had some fast film on hand in anticipation of the Leonids and went
flying around the house trying to round up tripod and
camera...
I was able to image the beginning of the
display at 6:45 and the surge of green at 7:45 and just before the moon
came up I got a shot of the house and observatory. The aurora changed a
lot during this time... most of the time it was just a "glow"
but there were two episodes of white rays flying all over the place and a
huge section of green seemed to cut off from the main body and migrate
over the horizon to the NE.
One of the images posted captures the trail
that it left. On this image also notice that the aurora was so bright it
lit up the forest!
The images are

Once again, despite
our best efforts, the brilliant reds, magentas, and lime greens seem to
loose some of their brilliance once posted... but you can get an idea.
This is a page on which you will find (hopefully) three
images.
Have a good
one,
Tony
