I'm not sure about the specifics, they don't like to talk about this stuff 
as they consider it proprietary information. But I'm sure we can assume 
that just as Astro-Physics has improved the performance of their scopes 
over the years by tweaking the design as new glass became available, Nikon, 
Canon, and the other big boys do the same thing. I think Nikon grows their 
own glass too.
