Hi Dale,

I don't know about the flare, but I would doubt it that got any worse in 
the new models.

I am sure that they used the updated glass, and possible a new optical 
configuration in the newer models too.

The old ones were beasts, but the new ones are considerably lighter and 
more compact. They are also considerably more expensive.
