Mike,
After having done a few of these HA-RGB images
the dilemma is whether to retain the star colors and
overall color saturation vs maintaining the contrast and
detail in the nebula. I don't think you can have both to
their full extent. Its a tradeoff and the result depends
on the preference of the imager. Your image processing
skills are excellent so its a relief to see that this is a challenge
for you as well.
