[APML] Leonide fireball

With only 2 weeks left before this years Leonid's, I thought what better way to
get in the right mood than to reprocess an image I got of a bright Leonid
fireball in 1999? I believe I have improved my image processing skills during
the last couple of years and I'm much happier with this version than my earlier
attempts! Comments are welcome!

You can view the image and details using this link:
http://home.online.no/~arnedani/astronomy/astrophoto/meteors/45-03.htm

Notice Orion's upper body to the left, Aldebaran just right of the centre and
the Pleiades to the far right.

This year I will be travelling North, together with three good friends, in an
attempt to catch the Leonid's! Our little expedition, which we have named Arctic
Leonid Expedition 2001 (ALE for short <G>) will take us to an observatory near
Tromso in the Northern parts of Norway. The observatory
http://www.phys.uit.no/skibotn/> )is located at almost 70° North and will be our
base from the 16th to the 19th of November. Travelling this far North is an
alternative (a much cheaper one) to travelling to Asia or the U.S., in order to
get darkness during the predicted peak times. We might even get some Aurora
Borealis as an added bonus. :-)

I would also take the opportunity to wish everyone happy hunting for this years
Leonid's!

Best regards,
Arne
