Volker,
I got to thinking... the
advantages of CCD are such that eventually everyone will probably convert
over... I am planning on it some time next year... although film is a standard
today, tomorrow it will be a rarity... in a sense, a CCD chip is just like
film, only way more sensitive... the good astrophotographers will use it the
same way they use film... to record the basic image... so I don't think there
is that much difference anymore...many good CCD'ers find themselves in this
"no man's land"... I think at this point the lines are blurring... Rob Gendler
is on the APML... I certainly don't intend to leave if I go CCD... maybe we
need to change the definition of an astroimage to encompass CCD or there will
be a note on the APML... "will the last one to leave please close the door."
Our basic premise is the excellence of photo images... but it is becoming
clear that film is not the only way to record light in the pursuit of an
excellent image. So many of the basic photography skills are necessary for
good CCD work... it's all becoming shades of gray...( like my
hair...)
