RE: [APML] saturn occ. time exp.

I took a picture of the last conjunction between saturn and the moon. Shooting at about 1 sec with eyepiece projection and a focal length of about 10,000 mm, saturn came out pretty well on teh picture but the moon is overexposed. I tried many pictures that night bracketing the exposure but the only way to get saturn is overexposing the moon. My suggestion is to try for 1/2 second and then work out coontrast on saturn with photoshop. I did teh other way around (using photoshop to reduce moon contrast) and it is still very difficult to understand that is the moon.
However, if you use a CCD camera you may have more dynamic and the moon details will be better than with film. I think the best way would be to use a video camera and record the whole experience if you can. It is really amazing.

Subject: [APML] saturn occ. time exp.

Hi friends,

I would like some advises for time exposures for the Saturn Occultaion on the 3rd of November (this Saturday)

I will be shooting Prime Focus with an 8" f/5 F1000 Newtonian telescope. I will mount the camera on the 2" focuser.
Shall I use a fast film (800 ISO?) or a slower? What would be the time exposures?

Thank you.

Marios.
