RE: [APML] Bright Meteor Over West TX
A bit more info now that I try to recall it. We were
facing north at my scope, talking with someone who was facing south. The
meteor was low, maybe starting 15 degrees above the horizon, and ending
around 5 degrees. It was moving from left to right and and
ended below Ursa Major. It covered about 20 degrees and was
bright then disappeared, and then brightened again. Sorry but I
cannot recall the date or time.

I was with Dave at TSP. Steve Smith of El Paso and I
both observed a meteor which appeared to dim and brighten multiple times.
We both commented on the apparent multiple flashes. I don't remember the
exact date and time, but do remember it being towards the north and both of us
saying to each other "Sweet...Did you see that?". This was one of many
meteors observed last week at TSP.

Hi
Jim,
I was
there and seem to recall a bright skimmer around that time. We
also had our share of clouds, though. As a matter of fact, I think I
captured another bright meteor on the previous night. If I
got anything interesting, I'll post it after I get the film
processed.

Did anyone on this list, or at the Texas Star Party monitoring this list
observe a very bright meteor with multiple flashes over West Texas on 5/6
at 22:19 MDT ? The event was obscured by clouds from here and still
flashed at a -7.4 visual magnitude.
A composite flight image and QuickTime movie capture of this event is
available at
Brightest flash occured at AZ 118.1 at an EL of 3.0 from this
location which could put this event very close to (maybe just N of)
the Davis Mountains.
Thanks for any response.
Regards,
Jim Gamble
