Re: [APML] Noise Reduction and LCD Monitors

Hi Alan
You may take a look at those sites (after a google search...):
Here is a exhaustive test between several softwares. It was done with a astropic as a target, a comet. The winners were the old SGBNR and Grain Surgery. I would add that PixInsight's SGBNR works better than the old stand-alone version, and if you make a SCNR+Wavelets+SGBNR you'll have even better results!
Two people talk about SGBNR and NeatImage... they sumarize their pros and cons.
Another forum here:
Here is another good comparison's page:
There a lot of softwares beeing tested, but they missed SGBNR, or PixInsight. The bottom line: Juan played with the displayed images a few months ago and shared them with me. I liked the results more than Noise Ninja's, the former winner.
You may take a look here too:
In my opinion there are a some of advantajes using NoiseNinga or NeatImage, like friendly interfase and faster results, however, if you are going for the "gold medal", i.e. the best results, nothing is close enought to PixInsight's tools. The only kind of noise that I would suggest anybody to try another software are interference noise (waves in the image) or some banding, becouse they can be easyly fixed with a fourier-transform based technique. Anyway, they are very uncommon for us. If you want to spare a bit of your time learning it, you can't go wrong with PixInsight. Also, the price in unbeatable!
