Re: [APML] California Comet Adventure - First NEAT image
Thanks for the comments everyone! It is greatly appreciated. Please see
below for individual responses.
Steve - No, we didn't try the black light on a rattlesnake...next time....
:-) We saw sidewinder tracks in the sand but no snakes. As a side note, a
few months before, Jim was out in the same area with Vince Bert (buddy in my
trip report page) and a sidewinder had actually crawled up inside the 20"
f/5 rocker box to settle down for a early spring nap... <g>
Jeff - I figured I'd be screwed in New England if I stayed. Those air miles
can come in handy.
Augie - Those darn trailed stars will get ya everytime..... I wish SBIG
would design a guider that actually worked.... ;-)
Bobby & Stuart - I haven't tried the "minimum" filter but I'll try at see
what I get. Thanks for the idea!
John - In the 14 days since I've been home from the trip, I've had one clear
night that could be considered photographic. Spotted the comet in binos. I
agree that it was a risk to go for such a short time frame but May in the CA
desert is probably the best time to get clear skies......although they say
that about AZ too but I got dumped on by monsoonal t-storms/rain at Sunglow
Ranch for over 24 hrs straight in the middle of May....gotta love mother
nature. Dec-March you can get clouds from Pacific storms moving in from
the coast and the summer is brutally hot and sometimes the eastern CA
deserts get the monsoonal overflow from AZ. Sept-Nov are excellent months
too.
BTW, you'll have to talk to Jim privately about the leg........ <vbg>
