hey guys..
Boy, seems I opend up a can of worms
here.. LOL... I still believe film is
slowly approaching its
demise. May be not for many years
but it
will happen. Having
said that, it is only a matter of time before Hollywood goes digital, and where
will that leave Kodak?....
However, I do
agree in
principle to those who did respond and its nice to see this group chime in
on each others posting. Take a look
around you and see how
many digital cameras are being sold to the average citizen, and compare that
with how many film cameras. Why are film labs switching to digital ?
because of consumer demand....
Over here in Oz, we have had hundreds of
1 hour film labs close down simply
because another opened up doing digital. Others have saved their
bacon by doing both, but
its jolly hard to fight big brother digital. I know of two big pro
labs wont do E6
anymore and another wont touch C41 as both consider pro work is going more
digital. Even the press are
switching to digital and Nikon is selling their D2H like hot cakes!
As more and
more consumers switch to digital, then its a case of sink or swim for the film
manufacturers. Let's face it guys, we are facing an uphill battle, and
while us astro imagers
are in the minority group no big multinational is going to listen to us. If
every second person in the world had a telescope we might have not
any light pollution. Same goes for film users over digital. Ho
hum...
As for me.. I will continue to support
film and until the day comes that no labs do film any more, then yeah, its time
to cave in to digital, In the meantime though, let's make the best of what is
left and enjoy it. One day, our grand kids or even our great grand kids will
ask: "... Dad, what is film.."
starlight to all..
