hEh cHRis...
I think it would be wonderful to step into my back yard and get such a shot on this 'yuky stuff'... ;-) my tripod shot with the 800 speed version of this '4th Layer' junk isn't too swift, however... see:

... your big Schmidt, APOD shot is much mo' better than the Fuji film shot... as you know!
I was back at Brasstown last night (05/23/04) and did multiple focal lengths with 'Supra 400' and some 400mm shots with 'Provia 400F'... films are developed and the longer focal lengths look promising on the light box.
The growing crescent moon fogged the film for the 200mm lens, which was at f4. I also shot 300mm, 400mm, and 525mm... all at f5. The slight increase in focal ratio suppressed the moon light on the longer f-ratio shots... gradients are manageable on these. Last outing, my 200mm prevailed... this time -- it was junk !!!
I first did some 3 1/2 minute exposures, at sidereal, to get a background. I then did a bracketed sequence from 8 -- 15 minutes, guided on the comet nucleus. I hope to composite some of the higher-res comet images with the background fields... I have over a dozen successful images, at three different focal lengths to sort through... wish me luck on that one !!!
Best... :o)
