Hello Phil,
It looks at first glance to be standard vignetting/uneven illumination.
Check out many of the techniques on Jerry L's site as well as Matt
BenDaniel's site (Google searches pull them up easily) for Photoshop
fixes. I have found that it is difficult to cure this with one layer
iteration. I like to approach uneven field illumination in small bites
with multiple iterations with each iteration of image stretching. Good

Here is a 7.5 minute exposure on unpushed Provia 400 taken through a
105mm
lens at f/2.8. I attempted to scan this with my new film scanner, but I
am
getting some sort of haze in the middle of the pic. Notice to the right
of
the comet, it is nice and dark.
