Jeff, I agree about the black level - the histogram shows that both black 
and white levels are quite compressed.  There is so much that is dark in 
that photo that I tried to preserve the detail, but I do agree that 
stretching the black level a bit actually enhances detail in the 
stones.  I'll try tweaking it later...
