Hey Mike...
Since you want to limit exposure times to < 30 seconds, reciprocity failure is of little concern. Nearly any print film can perform at this level. The Fuji 800... either 'pro' or 'consumer' will provide a decent color balance, and an acceptable balance between speed and grain.
The tail of Q4 is dim, and you should go as long as you dare, bracketing exposures from your fastest f-stop through about f2.8... trailed stars aren't so bad, if you can catch more of the comet!
Here's a stack of three, 35 second exposures with a 50mm lens at f1.2 when the object first cleared the horizion... see:

... Fuji 'Superia' 800. The image is 'soft', because I shot it wide open to catch the faintest stuff possible. This is why under darker skies, you should bracket f-stops to find the balance between 'fast & sharp'... with these short exposure tripod shots.
