Re: [APML] STV or ST7E for guiding?...
Hi Alan,
I was a pioneer with the ST-V during a time when the firmware had problems.
Even after SBIG released updated firmware I continued to experience
intermittent guiding problems which were primarily oscillations of one axis.
I would routinely spend 30 minutes or more messing with the -V parameters
and still get oval stars. Something I have never had with either the ST-4
or now the ST-237a and Maxim. IMO Maxim solves this problem by giving you
control of the min / max move in each axis and by control of the pause
between corrections in each axis. My AP1200 will guide better unguided than
I could get the ST-V to guide. Ray Gralak's Pulseguide allows me to take 10
minute exposures (sorry CCD) unguided. To be fair many imagers use the ST-V
successfully but I was not one of them. My Losmandy GM200 had the same
problem with the -V but not the ST-4.
If you need more info feel free to email me off list.
Jim
