Was that the road West to San Jose or the one North towards Livermore?
Either would be entertaining in a sporty car...

I drove up the first and down the second on my only visit to Lick - in some
totally unmemorable hire car.

All I did was join the daytime visitors - didn't realise that there was any
possibility of observing there - and it may have been before I got involved
with astronomy, rather than just being interested.
