[APML] STV or ST7E for guiding?...
I've been autoguiding my film exposures w/ a ST7E + CCDOPS using
an 80mm f11 for a guidescope. The film imaging scope is 106 f5 (530mm FL).
My plan has been to replace the 80mm f11 w/ a short guidescope and
continue to use the ST7E.
I'm wondering if the STV + E-finder would be a better performer.
The ST7E is a bit big/heavy and does require the power sucking
laptop running ccdops. Also, the initial autoguide calibrate is
lengthy with the 20second full frame downloads... plus it seems
like ccdops always picks a star near the FOV edge, resulting in the
need to repoint the OTAs for calibration.
Any comments? Is the STV really painless?
Btw, the mount is a G11.
thanks
jeff
