    I've never used the waist level finder, but since it has a 5x magnifier built in, I suspect that it would be an excellent method of getting better focus and right-angle access at the same time. Probably even better than the Magnifier R, which only has a 2.5x magnification.
 
The I screen is a matte field, but the center area is plain clear glass with double cross-hairs (like the letter 'L' in all four orientations).  It works in the same manner as a knife-edge focuser. If you move your head side-to-side while viewing the screen, the image (star) will be stationary with respect to the cross-hairs if it is focused on the same plane as the cross-hairs.  If the star is focused closer or farther from you than the cross-hairs, then the star image will move from side-to-side as you move your head.
 
For this application, I would lean towards the I-screen (designed for astrophoto/microphoto use) since faint stars can disappear in the matte fields.
 
I think the I-screen, with the 5x waist-level finder, would provide the best option for sharp focus and ease of use.

I know that this is an old question (I read the archives), but I still have some questions about it:

- Is the Canon Waist Level Finder the better way to get a more accurate focus, and doing it at right angle, at the same time?

- Wich one is the better Screen? I have read that the D, G and I are good choises... How does the I works? BTW, I owe and old F1.

Mainly I want to upgrade my photographical stuff for Wide Field AP, but also want to make some deep sky shots with little refractors, which other accs do you recomend?
