[APML] Negative Scanning Services

I recently had a couple of 120 Techpan negatives scanned by a local camera
store.  They have an expensive Imacon large format scanner.  I opened the
scans last night and the histograms are way to the left with the shadows
severely clipped.  Is this a common problem in getting negs scanned?  I am
hoping I will not have to buy a  medium format scanner.  If I do, any
recommendations?  Calumet has a Mircrotek Artixscan that looks like the
Polaroid and they don't carry the Polaroid anymore.
