 Hey Brian...

     You will lose some info when compressing to JPEG, but it will certainly 
keep the file sizes smaller.

     My scanner, ScanWit 2720S has a 'RAW' scan function, but they aren't true 
raw scans in this mode... too much info gets lost. The driver, MiraPhoto does 
have excellent Curves and Levels dialog... I adjust these in pre-scan on a 
frame by frame basis... then check the Histogram in PS or PW before saving the 
scan. Sometimes I'll adjust and rescan 3 or 4 times before I'm satisfied with 
the Histogram. This makes final processing much easier... and according to 
Covington... captures all the detail the original has to offer.

     Long story short... my scans are of no value for your comparision... 
they're pre-processed when I get them into the image app.
