Re: [APML] OT: LED Flashlights
Steve,
You can make your own red LED "bulb" and use it in a flashlight or
inexpensive headlight. I took the Xenon bulb out of my headlamp, sacrificed
the bulb to unsolder the light element and break away the glass. Replace it
with a bright red LED (5000 mcp from Radio Shack). You have to solder in
the LED with the correct polarity, and if you use more than 2 batteries,
then you need to put in a dropping resister between the LED and the "light
bulb contact base. This makes a red LED that can easily be replaced back
with the regular bulb if you so desire. I've been using my red LED headlamp
for a couple years, and have to change the batteries every 6 months or so.
I got tired of holding the red LED flashlight in my teeth too.
