It was obvious that Portland, Oregon was going to clouded in on May 15, 2003
so a friend and I drove about four hours to the Painted Hills in eastern
Oregon. It was partly cloudy with a cloud bank directly blocking the area of
moon rise. The moon rose above the clouds about forty minutes later and we
took some photographs. Got caught in a blizzard on Mt. Hood returning to
Portland that night but made it back safely. Two or three of the photographs
turned out okay so I was pleased. An example is at:
