The Mag-Light people sell an accessory headband that you can slip a 2-AA battery maglight into. I bought one at a Sears Hardware store for about $6, and it works great for me. The beam of the Mag-Light can be adjusted from a spot to a wide angle.
It's basically just a nylon strap with velcro that you fasten around your head. There is an elastic loop into which you slip your Mag-Light. Of course you also need the red filter lens kit to make the light output red.
If you don't have a Mag-Light to begin with, the entire setup would probably cost < $25.
