No spaces are better, or just replace them manually with the "%20"
symbol.  This problem only shows up in text-only mail and text-only
readers.  HTML mail clients usually do the right thing when you insert
the link in the first place.  Some browsers (like Mozilla 1.4 that I'm
using) convert the space in the "%20" symbol even when I paste it into
the URL field.
