Ironic you mentioned this...RoboScope has been debating the same subject.  It boiled down to what a Celestron Tech stated.

"We use Dow Corning BR2+ grease on the primary baffle tube.  The main 
thing you want to look for is a grease that will not run in high 
temperatures and does not freeze or thicken up in cold weather."

use. My idea is to substitute the original one. Can you recommend a specific
model, ie from Molykote greases?
