Congratulations on your new 8" Schmidt. I use setup 2), that is my
guidescope is mounted above the camera with Losmandy guidescope rings.
It has worked very well for me. One difference is that I have a custom
set of rings for the Schmidt. It came with the camera which I bought
used. I do not think this makes a difference. I have used both a
Celestron 80mm f/11 or the AP 80mm f/11 guidescopes. In the past I had
this setup mounted on a Losmandy G11 mount. It worked very well.
