There was an article in Sky & Tel about five years ago by someone who was
using the Tamron 300 mm.  I remember being pleasantly surprized at how good
his images were for the low price of the lens.  I can't remember specifics,
but I remember thinking at the time that I could live with those results
considering the cost of the lens.  You may have to use a filter with less
expensive lenses to trim away some blue light that may flare images.
