I had to read that twice; 24x36 means 35mm film, right?

The best scanners are dedicated film scanners but to scan medium
format you'll have to be willing to spend about $1000.  That said, I
purchased the Epson 2450 photo and am reasonably happy with it.  Just
keep in mind that it has some limitations in dynamic range.  And if
your slides are underexposed, it will simply not pick up much of
anything.
