Re: [APML] Two new images from mid May
Bobby,
Thank you very much for the compliment.
I would say that, yes, they were exceptional. I often do have trouble trying
to figure out how dark and transparent it really is. The brain does an amazing
job of making it look dark at night no matter where you are :)
A couple things I noticed that night:
1) Ikeya-Zhang was an easy naked eye object. I thought it would be too dim by
that point to see with out binoculars, but it was a pretty easy find.
2) I have never seen more detail in the milky way naked-eye. The clouds of
stars almost looked like clouds do in the daytime. You could also see many of
the dark lanes near the center of the galaxy.
3) The central bulge was sooo prominent. Even a non-astronomer could tell that
there was a huge galaxy right in front of us!
4) The horizons were almost as good as straight up as far as transparency.
Seeing was not too great down low (but not bad). Yes, there was some green in
the shot near the horizon, but much less of a problem than I had ever seen
before.
