Re: [APML] S&T's New Publishing Agreement
I personally think 50 bucks is a sad amount to offer for astronomical
photographs even if they are one time rights.
It is by far one of the most expensive forms of photography once you get
into the deeper end of the quest with expensive telescopes and mounts,
hypering, time, etc.
I brought up one time on a freelance NG that I gave one of my pictures away
to a magazine and the response was incredible and chastizing.
There were a few that stood by why I did it but I also learned something
valuable as far as the state of selling astronomical photos for a cheap
price.
Get ahold of a book called the Photographers Market 2002 and see how much
magazines are paying for 1 time rights...50 bucks is on the lowest end.
I think this would be the perfect place to start a serious thread on how
much to charge for your photos for these astro magazines.
We are the ones who basically make the magazine look good...we are not cheap
clothing.
Here are some interesting links on the market and freelance.

this moment may be brief
but it can be so bright
reflected in another source of light
when the moment dies
the spark still flies
reflected in another pair of eyes
