Re: [APML] Another processing challenge

The scan was very good and it wasn't much trouble to work with.  I mostly worked with levels, curves, and some masks for star shaping.  I also did a few adjustments using hue/saturation to adjust the color balance.  I wasn't able to get much more contrast without burning out the denser regions near the top of the image.  Comments?

Subject: [APML] Another processing challenge

Hi Guys,
Following on from Matt's LMC. I thought I would throw this one in for anyone who is interested.

It is a shot of the Scorpius Milky way taken with a 6x7 Pentax on E200, 200mm lens @f5.6 60 mins - push 1/2 stop.

The scan is a monster file so I am posting a small JPG version of it. A pro lab did the scan so I don't know the type of scanner used but I guess it is reasonably good one.

The detail is good but the colours are a bit dull and when I try to bring them up with PS 5 the shot becomes a bit to contrasty and loses it's detail.

The file is 587kb and is about 2000x1600 in size.

I only have PS but if someone has some real whizbang software that does the trick, I would love to see the result and know what was done.

Many thanks

Monte
