Matt, thanks for the encouraging comments.

If I boost the green channel anymore, the central trapezium region seems to
saturate (gets
very very bright and washed out).

Whats does getting into "AV" mean?

The Bok Globules are actually proto planetary dust specs on these slides.
It's a set of slides that
are all mostly badly focussed and badly tracked from my first forray into
film photography and
I keep them next to my scanner, so they are always being scanned (in
different ways) to
help me learn more about scanning/PS etc.. and they are therefore generally
abused.
(I did however note your comment the other day about anti static lens
brushes and lab gloves).

PS. The M42 shot was a 12 minute exposure on E200 / 300mm f4 newtonian
reflector with
no guiding or coma corrector (I'm working on this!!)
