RE: [APML] I THINK I UNDERSTAND CURVES

Don't know about the curves, but I'll be mighty happy when I get a prime focus shot like that.

Subject: [APML] I THINK I UNDERSTAND CURVES

As most of you know, I'm new to astrphotography with film but very captivated by it.

It's just trying to understand PS and curves etc..

I've spent the last two days reading and re-reading Matt Ben Daniel's article on curves and finally
think I got it licked.

I've uploaded a raw image I took a few months back (I know it's not focussed or tracked properly and the vignetting
needs looking at) to see what I could do with curves. I've never got even a half decent result until now.

I would appreciate any comments on them (apart from the faults that I've mentioned above) to know
if I'm finally getting somewhere with curves.

(Alan, if you're reading and the comments are kind, I'll let you know what I did).

The raw scanned image is at :  http://www.astropics.co.uk/m42raw.jpg

The processed image is at:   http://www.astropics.co.uk/m42pr.jpg

I also tried a colour range mask (per Jerry Lodriguss web site article) and a little digital unsharp masking.

Appreciate any constructive criticism - am I starting down the right path or did I make a wrong
turn somewhere?

Thanks
