John,

Yes, I think more astrophotographers would be using medium format if there 
was a good color negative 120 film.

Provia 400F (which you introduced me to) has relatively good dynamic range 
recording power for a slide film. My 90 minute shot of Eta Carinae at f/6.7 
did not burn out the central regions. I think the main downside of 400F is 
that the star images are slightly larger and less colorful than on negative 
film. Star shaping and the minimum filter (that Mike cook introduced us to) 
do help.
