RE: [APML] Pouring a 9 foot pier
Hi Chris:
About the roof: if you have prevailing westerly storms
like I do, I would suggest having the roof split to the
east and west. That way the west side can have an
overlapping ridge cap that closes down over the east
side and keeps the weather out. I don't have any snow,
of course (semi-coastal California), but we get some
very heavy windy rain storms in the winter. My fold-off
roof, which splits east/west, keeps the inside amazingly
dry with only about 6 inches of ridge cap overhang. I
have the south wall fitted with a fold-down peak so that
I can get Sag, etc. THe pictures on my site show the
general arrangement (navigate for "Observatory") but I
can't remember now whether it shows the overhang detail.
Great project---enjoy!
