RE: [APML] OT: TSP panorama

Man, that's a lot of dirt. Are you all sure it's worth going to that site
every year?
I'm sure the Ranch is nice, but there's got to be a place that's a bit
friendlier on
your equipment, even if it means losing a little altitude and southern sky
limits.

I almost went this year, but an alternative star party was held much closer
(also in Texas) that I chose to attend instead. The weather wasn't any
better,
but at least the dirt wasn't as hard on my 'scope. And the folks there were
just as nice as can be. Don't know for sure if they'll do it again, but
I'll be there
if they do.

So, if not the Prude Ranch next year, where else would be a good spot?
How 'bout Robert's place? <g>

Slightly off topic, but then again, we did try to do astrophotography at the
Texas Star Party.

I have uploaded a panoramic photo of the upper observing field at this
year's TSP. It was taken on Wednesday afternoon, so the gorgeous blue skies
were a one-day sucker hole. It is actually about 400 degrees as I go
slightly past the start point of the panorama. Look closely at the left and
right and spot the people and red van that were not in the same place on the
other side. The panorama starts looking due north from the center of the
observing field, then rotates to the east, south, and west. If you were at
TSP, look for your scope.

The photo is big, 600 X 6000 pixels in a 260Kb .jpg that was compressed down
from the original 1350 X 14150 pixel 56 Mb .tif

Enjoy.
