Well. if you haven't already named the observatory, how about "Cloudscraper"? Must come pretty close...

Bert, I was actually trying to get above the clouds, but the concrete cost was a bit too high.  The floor will be six feet up,  to get above some of the smaller local trees.

Man, that is one tall pier! How high off the ground is the observatory floor going to be? Are you trying to get above the trees?

For those of  you interested in making a solid pier, with a minimum of concrete pouring please see my new update to our project on the web page below.  The plan is we are building an observatory at a very dark sky site for film Schmidt camera photography.
