Dean,

I got out last Friday and it still had a nice tail.  I used 600mm, 300mm and
200mm focal lengths.  They all had their good points.  I would not go over 600mm. 
Your Arizona air is a lot clearer that the stuff we look through here in Michigan so
I expect you will have a longer tail that will show.
