The other way to deal with the "demon star" is just to layer
either a shorter or filtered exposure of the star.

   At just a scant ten minute exposure the "demon star" as it is called bloomed like mad... I spent almost an hour in PS cleaning up the mess. I am going to try to shoot it at 6 minute durations, co-ad the frames, and median combine the sums... isn't CCD fun? It is looking like most images have even histograms when broken down to RGB and L components... but reversing the process shows that you need RGB to cover the L... or so it would seem.
 
    Note to all:   In US News and World Report there is a nice image of the latest Cone Nebula shot taken with the new HST... the caption reads:   " The first images from the improved Hubble Space Telescope include this one showing galaxies colliding millions of light years away..." hmmmm.... am I missing something?
