Re: [APML] Total Newbie

Robert,

I don't have any experience with either of the two scopes you
mention so I cannot comment on their suitability.

However, I would recommend that you worry about what mount
to get rather than the scope.  If you don't have a good mount
then even a great scope is quite useless.

I know it is fun to take pictures right away but reading
a good introductory text such as Astrophotography for the
Amatuer by Michael Covington or Deep Sky Astrophotography
by Robert Reeves will give you a good idea of what you
should start with.

Finally, the APML archives at http://astro.umsystem.edu/apml
are an invaluable resource and you will find numerous
recommendations for beginners.

Subject: [APML] Total Newbie

Hey everyone:

My name is Robert Hernandez, Im 16 and live in Panama (central america) and I would like to do some astrophotography, I own a Canon EOS-3000 and I also have a 50mm f/1.8 lens. I´ve tried once to do some constellation shooting but I didnt get nice results (I believe too much light pollution).

Im considering two options for my first scope: the Orion ShortTube 90 and the SkyView 120ST, I would appreciatte your oppinion and reviews for both scopes. Also I have read about the barn door and I´ll use some oppinions about its functioning.

Thanks

Robert
