[APML] M33-LRGB with RG200 and ST7 from Kitt Peak
Hello all,
I got the notion to try and combine my RG200 M33 with an image I took
from Kitt Peak over 2 years ago. I spent the night imaging a mosaic
with Adam Block with the Meade 16" and an ST7. I believe this was
Adam's first significant mosaic. I really did not know what I was
doing. I guess it has taken me two years to learn a little about
processing to do the image justice. It is no understatement to say that
I had to shape some stars manually. There were some very large seagulls
from the Meade scope. Certainly not from the AP<g> I believe the focal
reducer was the culprit for the poor off axis images at the time. I
could be wrong about that. The RG200 was taken at Cherry Springs SP
with the AP 130EDT. I used Rob Gendler's LRGB technique. I hope it is
appropriate to post here. I also had to remove some red halos. There
are some data gaps. You will see large black areas with no stars. I
guess I should go ahead and copy and paste some stars since I have
manipulated the image so much already<g> We just did not cover the area
when we did the mosaic. Links at the webpage to the individual
luminance and color image. I basically combined the images and did the
star shaping. Little else. I thought all of the smoothing techniques
just took away from the bright star clusters in the arms. The image may
be a bit dark. I am really having trouble with luminosity as my monitor
warms up. Please let me know if the image is too dark or too light. I
do want to error toward dark since I do have the data gaps with no
stars. The luminance core may be burned out. I did not know how to
work with the data when I worked on the luminance and mosaic. The core
is a mask to cover the burned core. Thanks for any tips.
