In the Americas, the separation will be even
closer. Looks like they'll be under three arcminutes apart around
0035 UT, May 4. That's 8:35pm Eastern Daylight time and about half-an-hour
after sunset.
Too bad it will never get dark enough to see
the comet before twilight ends; that would be an awesome sight!

Whilst it's raining, I've been looking at comets on
my planetarium software which shows that
Mercury and Comet Utsunomiya will be within 12 arc
minutes of each other on May 3rd (mercury
at mag 0.4 and Utsunomiya at mag 6.2
Trouble is, they will both be extremely low on the
NWW horizon.
Just thought I'd mention it in case someone thinks
it might be worth giving it a shot.
