Roland thank you for sharing your comments!

There is certainly a learning curve associated with this quirky hobby,
and I suspect one either enjoys the trials and tribulations along the
way,
or moves on to a more cost-effective hobby--like owning a boat or small
plane.

The only thing I might suggest adding to your comments would be to seek
out a local astronomy club and rub elbows with other people 
who are doing AP.  Its faster to learn from other people's mistakes
than to have to make them all yourself!
