I buy my ink at Camera world of Oregon, and it cost me $1.05 for an 8x10 hi-res
print ( ink only ) on Epson
premium glossy photo paper.  An 12 x 18 ink cost is $2.83.  The paper is what ever
you can get it for.
I hope that this will give you better idea of cost.  I'm using a 1270, and think
that it is an outstanding printer.
My color prints are averaging around 1.31 cents per square inch for the ink cost.
