[APML] Emulsions and Focus

APMLers,

I sent a question to Kodak recently asking the emulsion thickness for TP and
E200. I also asked where the optimal focal point was, at the top or deeper
inside the emulsion. I am trying to refine my knife edge focuser to take
these parameters into consideration.

Attached is their response which you may find interesting. I intend to
calibrate my KE to a point which is 2/3 of a mil above the surface of the
acetate. This should put it in the center of the active emulsion.

Dr. Stephen Walters,

The rule of thumb is that the emulsion is a mil thick. Focus should be
within the emulsion pack - not right at the top. Of course, the
light-sensitive portion of the emulsion pack is probably about 2/3 of
the total.
