I've used both types of systems extensively. As you mentioned,
the dovetail wins hands down when considering ease of use. But
there is a loss of rigidity.
You're choice depends on whether or not your guidescope is
bolted directly to the imaging OTA's mounting rings. In that
case you can go to a fairly heavy payload without flexure
being a material factor IMO. But if using the side-by-side
saddle, once you get above ~30# the differential flexure
starts becoming noticeably. With the larger instruments IMO
it is worth the time to bolt everything together.
Keep in mind that with Losmandy's system and the G-11 type
receivers you only have a couple of inches holding everthing
together. Not only is the lock down plate quite small, but
intolerances in the manufacturing tend to cause it to raise
when tightened, removing all of the contact area on the
bottom of the dovetail plate.
