[APML] ST-4 questions

Hey all,

I'm still getting used to the ST. Most everything
makes some sort of sense now. Except; averaging
adjust. This item is not mentioned in the 'manual'.
What are the advantages and dis-advantages of playing
with this setting. FYI, my set-up is: 12"LX200, NGF-S,
Taurus T III, followed by an OM-1. I'm presently using
the Taurus 6.5 reducer in the sysem also.

Also, should I be able to feel if the cooling system
is working? No part of the ST feels cool to the touch.
Is that normal?

I'd also like to take this chance to say that after
using the ST-4 for awhile, I don't understand all the
201 bashing that I've seen. I used the 201 for a year
and unless the ST gets a lot easier to use, I'm
pulling the 201 out of the closet. In fairness, I
should say that I did buy the ST used, so who knows?

I have been able to guide on stars that I wouldn't
have even considered with the 201. However, the
separate control box and having to reset all the
parameters every time is a real pain. I now believe
that most of the 201's bad reputation comes from the
fact that it is the first autoguider people try. The
first time is always the hardest. Considering the
price difference, I'd have to rate them fairly even.
'Nuff said.

Thanks in advance for any help,
Alan
