Probably not -- with fixer. Even with a "rapid" fixer, one would
have to really over-fix the film to reduce the negative density very
much.
The same is not true with developers. I have found that if you
use a developer -- temperature combination that reduces the
development time below 4 or 5 minutes for small tank development,
you may end up with uneven development. This is a disastrous
result, basically ruining the negatives. When a developer/film
combination requires a development time less than 5 minutes, I
usually develop at a lower temperature in order to extend the time.
